Description: Original oil study on board for the work commissioned by Michael for his son, titled "Prince, The Boy King." From Julien's Auctions: Nordahl worked with Jackson to create the portrait of Prince Michael Jackson. The painting comes with a typed letter signed by Nordahl reading, "Michael asked me to do a portrait of Prince when he was just little. I painted this sketch according to his instructions. I thought it was a very clever way to do a portrait. When Michael got a copy (I didn't send the original because I had to send it to a hotel in Chicago) he called me right away. He loved the sketch but asked me to include the crown of the throne with Prince's initials, to include animals in the throne and to put a plate and a bottle on the steps. I also put Prince's initials on the pages' belts and included Michael's face on each side. I really enjoyed every minute I spent on this whimsical portrait. We had plans to do portraits of Paris and Blanket." Sold by Julien's Auctions (Lot #387) for $4,687.50 at their 2010 Music Icons auction. All screen captures are the property of their respective owners. |
