Participating in building this MJ collecting site came just in time. We started collecting Michael items in the late 80s. When we were moving in together, we were confronted with lots of items we had collected over the years and had no idea of how to store them properly. That’s why they were put into any kind of boxes, shelves and drawers. Plus, we had no idea how many and which items we exactly had in our collection as we have never made a list of it. When we were visiting other MJ fans at their home or went to a record fair, we very often had the situation that we didn’t know - do we own that already or not?
Now, MJJCollectors was the push we needed to create a complete list of our collection. I’m curious to know how other fans have their collections organised and how they display and store their items.
I realized that it’s a pity that our vinyls, CDs and other stuff aren’t displayed in a nice-to-look-at way. We know that they are there, but for the pure joy of looking at it, it always takes a lot of time to get them out of the furthest corner of our cabinet or shelves. I read an article about displaying collections that had a funny note: "Collections almost always look better when they're organized. Strewn haphazardly around the home, they can be mistaken for clutter. Purposefully displayed, they look like art." How true ;)
I searched for some ideas of how to display CDs, vinyls and magazines that mean most to us. They are quite expensive though.
What do you think of this? Do you have any experiences or have made a self-construction?
