Study For "Triptych" Original Artwork *Acrylic Painting* By David Nordahl (c. 1999)

Description:

Original oil study on canvas for "Triptych" a three panel painting depicting Michael being crowned and knighted and presenting an original poem by Michael.  Exact date unknown, but very likely from the very late 1990s or around 2000.

From Julien's Auctions:

This painting comes with a typed letter signed by Nordahl reading, "This is one of the three studies I did of Michael for the painting "Triptych." Michael asked me to do three or four sketches featuring him being knighted, being crowned and illustrating a poem written by him. I decided to do a triptych (three sepearate paintings contained in one frame). I believe he had a particular purpose in mind for these paintings because for the first time I was given a deadline. The only change I made after this study was to make the background tapestry a little darker and more subdued so it wouldn't detract from Michael."

Sold by Julien's Auctions (Lot #388) for $27,500 at their 2010 Music Icons auction.  All screen captures are the property of their respective owners.
